switzerland: journal

to grindelwald via luzern - 13th june

heading south, we ventured onto the sustunpass. driving up to over 7000 ft the land rover did well. gingerly we crawled round the hairpin bends in second gear, climbing upwards through the frozen landscape. occasionally the view opened up (or down) through the clouds, revealing the full extent of the 1000 ft drop-offs at the edge of the road.

we’ve been camping in grindalweld at a site that has a magnificent view of the north face of the eiger however the cloud and rain has not allowed us to see this for the last 24 hours. finally, the cloud cleared (momentarily) and we were rewarded. then it went again!

lake luzern

the scenery in switzerland has been stunning. the lakes, waterfalls mountains and meadows are all picture postcard. we really would have liked to have spent some time walking around, but you can only have so much fun camping in the rain so after only two nights we decided to quit wet switzerland and head for sunny italy.
