recommendations?

on this page we will try to provide links to all the suppliers we've used as well as companies or organisations we've sought advice from. these should not necessarily be taken as recommendations and we do not support any of these companies, they're merely the people we used, for whatever reason.

we will however try to give a brief appraisal of the service we received where appropriate. we haven't received any kind of sponsorship for any of these links or for any of the products mentioned on this site. this is first and foremost in order to preserve the integrity and impartiality of our evaluation and provide you with a fair and unbaised report. secondly it's because we couldn't be bothered do ask anyone for sponsorship, and certainly no-one's offered any. if they did (fat chance), we'd probably say yes. but we'd tell you if we did.

land rover stuff

autoparts.co.uk - delivery was quick when i needed it.

brookwell - exchanged without quibble when i ordered the wrong part.

difflock.com - this is what I think a retail website should be. magazine style advice and articles, interspersed with links to their products. everything i ordered was delivered very promptly. i would recommend them.

halfords - compared to internet companies they are ridiculously expensive for most things. but they're in the high street and they're open on sundays and sometimes you need that gromet/gasket/paint/sealant now. what do you mean they don't have them in the middle of africa?
if you happen to be in the loughton area, debden motor spares are pretty good (better in fact) for that type of thing too.

mantec - we bought quite a lot of stuff from them in the end, at two land rover shows. they always did us good deals on bulk buys. a bit sparse on the fixtures and fittings for the roof-top tent, but they helped us out in the end.

paddock - their prices are good and they have been quite helpful with a couple of parts queries i've had. seem to have most land rover spares. free delivery over £50 always helps too.

qt services - didn't reply to my order request so i bought from brookwell.

van gadgets - i ordered stuff, they sent it.

outdoor clothing and paraphernalia

snow+rock - they have great sales and a comprehensive internet site.

www.africa-overland.net - links to loads of other overlanders' sites. claire's favourite. it has been a great source of inspiration and advice during the preparation of our trip.
