france: journal
to national parc de lorraine - 10th june
here we are in france in the rain sheltering in the land rover. until now
its been glorious weather and we've been walking through the national parks
breaking in our new hiking boots. so how was the journey here? well, times gone
a bit weird over the last few days. tuesday was a 5am start to empty the house,
get packed and finish off last minute tasks. 12 hours later we were finally
there and set off from loughton with a very full looking land rover. an
hour later we were at claire's parents for a goodbye meal and then off to
dover. unwilling to buy too much diesel at 83.9 pence a litre we ended up
pulling into the petrol station, running on vapours having been caught
out by our increased fuel consumption fully loaded - it was a
good lesson. none the less at 10 pm we were on the ferry and on our way to
france and eventually cape town. the long awaited day had arrived and we could
not quite believe it.
first camp, parc de lorraine
pro plus kept us going through the night as we motored
across the country. we screeched to a halt as a white cat ran out into our path -
thank god it wasn't a black one. as dawn broke we pulled over and slept in our
seats getting a few hours sleep before making our way towards national parc de lorraine.
is this where you light it?
its still raining…well, we've drunk
the stella and wine that russell bought us so it can only be time for the
travel scrabble!
